VSB Meeting Report

Last night the VSB Trustees met to decide a the fate of Garibaldi. However, a motion by Ken Denike passed 5 to 2 to first study the financial aspects of the proposal. The issue will next be addressed at the Monday, May 5th meeting.
The meeting room was packed with Garibaldi students, parents and community members. Dozens of teddy bears were delivered to trustees to remind them that a community of children are depending upon a positive outcome to the vote.
About 20 children were in attendance but were so well behaved that it was up to Kate Mulligan, Seana McPherson and others to set an example by speaking out of turn and creating a community ruckus. Afterwards, the kids played tag and carried as per usual in the gardens behind the VSB. One child remarked what a great time he had had. He especially liked the part with the delivery of the teddy bears to the trustees.
More details tomorrow.

Thanks to Scott for quick update. The pictures looked lovely.
Next VSB meeting in May, if the bus spaces allowed, we parents should bring the kids with us, set them up at the front row and let them withness how the adults decide their school's future, and sing the Garibaldi song out loud as well.

Hello Friends of Garibaldi,

For those of you who were unable to attend the VSB decision night
- I am sorry to say that the decision has been postponed.

I want to sincerely thank all of you who turned up in support of our school.
Although we were disappointed with the wait, we all feel that this is a positive
development and another step forward in this process toward success.
The fact that the VSB is doing further investigation into the proposal
means that they are taking it and us seriously.

At the next meeting (Monday May 05) there will be a decision. We need to ensure that
more people turn out than last night and we will win this!!!
BTW we had a great turn out. We packed one bus full last night and this time lets try for 2 buses.
We entrusted the trustees with lots of stuffed bears ( representing our children ) until May 05.
Of note was Shane Simpson’s (MLA) presence who is advocating for us with the Minister of Education.

Please spread the word and this time it will be a PARTY.

Thanks again for all of your support.
See you on May 05.

Hal Milne
